Incorporating electric vehicles (EVs) into your logistics solutions is no longer just an option – it’s more and more a necessity. We enhanced the PTV Developer Routing API to also cover specialized routing needs for electric trucks and vans.
Key Features for Developers
Assuming you are already PTV Developer customer (get free access here) with API Version 1.25 you have these new possibilities:
- Using the Data API (getVehicleModel) call grants you access to the world largest database for commercial electric vehicles. You can search for name or vehicle type to filter and to receive back a list of matching vehicles and information on them. Not only brands and models are covered, but also different battery variants.
- The standard Routing API call now can be enhanced to retrieve electricity consumption for specific vehicles and models. This is working in combination with all current options, like stop specific payloads, service times, time windows, drive&rest calculations, or traffic integration and adds the possibility to calculate detailed consumption and to answer range / feasibility questions.
Very important for the consumption calculation are specific weather conditions you can define and elevation on the route, that is considered automatically. - You can use the standard Routing API call also to configure charging capabilities at waypoints and retrieve information on which one to charge and for how long. It even includes charging optimization, considering speed and capabilities of vehicles, and charging stations, as well as service times to minimize the time needed to charge.
Unlocking New Possibilities
By integrating the PTV Developer Routing API, you unlock a suite of functionalities for electric fleets, that are essential, unique, powerful and easy to integrate.
The huge benefit for developers is, that you don’t have to know vehicle specific parameters, you can use it right away with market known vehicle models and it provides you a competitive edge by being able to simulate electric vehicle behavior in real-world scenarios.
