There is a large variety of truck routes across the world, where vehicles must follow or at least should use them. Vehicle examples are trucks with hazardous goods or long trucks, even trucks in general. The goal is to ensure road safety, protect infrastructure and maintain efficient traffic flow. If you want to dive deeper in that topic, please read the corresponding concept.
Up to now, most of the truck routes must be set explicitly in your request with the parameter ‘truckRoutes’ of the Routing API. But some general truck routes were implicitly considered, for example to prevent trucks routing through city centers when they are on transit. This led to unexpected route results, for example if there is a considerable detour to reach the truck routes.
With PTV Developer Routing API V1.34.0, we introduce the new truck route value ‘GENERAL_TRUCK_ROUTES’. There all the implicitly considered truck routes are summarized and can switched on explicitly. That means truck routes are no longer considered without using the parameter ‘truckRoutes’ and you have the freedom of choice.
Please note that this change is valid for all predefined profiles and for all routing-related APIs like the Matrix Routing API using these profiles.
