New Speed Calibration Process for PTV Developer Vehicle Profiles

Delivering More Realistic Travel Times for Superior Route Planning

We’re excited to announce that a significant update to PTV Developer vehicle profiles is now available. This enhancement introduces a new speed calibration process for time-dependent traffic data, bringing more realistic travel time calculations to your routing solutions.

The New Speed Calibration Process

Our new speed calibration process delivers more accurate modeling of time-dependent traffic conditions, reflecting real-world dynamics throughout the day. By continuously monitoring and improving data quality, we’ve developed a refined speed model that goes beyond what traditional map data providers offer.

What’s Changed?

The new calibration process brings speed predictions closer to real-world conditions. Based on customer feedback and benchmarks, calibrated travel times now align with industry benchmarks with high accuracy. Improvements are most significant in dense urban environments and rural areas.

Affected Vehicle Profiles

Any of our predefined vehicle profiles for cars or trucks support the new calibrated time dependent speeds. These comprises:

European Profiles: EUR_CAR, EUR_VAN, EUR_TRUCK_7_49T, EUR_TRUCK_11_99T, EUR_TRUCK_40T, EUR_TRAILER_TRUCK

American Profiles: USA_8_SEMITRAILER_5AXLE, USA_11_SEMITRAILER_5AXLE, USA_TRUCK, USA_VAN, USA_CAR

TLN profiles: EUR_TLN_VAN, EUR_TLN_TRUCK_11_99T, EUR_TLN_TRUCK_12T, EUR_TLN_TRAILER_TRUCK

All Other Regional Profiles in Australia and IMEA.

Real-World Benefits: Why This Matters

1. More Accurate ETAs = Higher Customer Satisfaction

The improved calibration means your estimated times of arrival now account for typical traffic patterns more precisely. Your customers receive reliable delivery windows they can count on, reducing frustration and support inquiries while building trust in your service.

2. More Robust Plannings with Reality-Based Data

Routes better reflect actual driving conditions with accurately modeled rush hours, lunch-time patterns, and weekend variations. Your plannings work with data that mirrors the real world and deliver plans that drivers can actually execute.

3. Better Operational Efficiency

With more accurate travel time predictions, you can reduce safety buffer times, plan more deliveries per vehicle, minimize overtime costs, and improve driver satisfaction. Better planning means fewer surprises and more predictable operations.

Implementation in Your Applications

Developers using our predefined vehicle profiles for cars or trucks automatically use the new calibrated time dependent speeds whenever a trafficMode (REALISTIC or AVERAGE) is defined and a startTime or arrivalTime is explicitely given in the Routing API or Matrix Routing API like illustrated in the corresponding routing code sample or matrix routing code sample

No code changes required – the improvements are automatically applied when explicitely using a startTime or arrivalTime for the traffic mode REALISTIC or AVERAGE.
