Ferries and rail shuttles (so called combined transports) are automatically used on a route, if it is advantageous compared to road. Moreover, you can choose a specific ferry or rail shuttle connection by specifying in the Routing API the corresponding start and destination coordinates and the nearest port or station is used on the route.
Of course, it is also possible to avoid them in general, but sometimes your use case is different and you want to prohibit only specific connections. With the new version of the PTV Developer Data API V1.17.0 we provide a solution for this! The new parameter ‘combinedTransportsToBeAttributed’ for custom road attribute scenarios allows to prohibit combined transports for individual needs like it is possible for roads.
All details can be found in the revised concept. A good starting point to test the new functionality is the enhanced showcase allowing to modify both roads and combined transports. As you can see in the example above the Channel Tunnel is prohibited by custom road attributes and so a ferry is used.
