Low-emission zones are areas within cities where certain vehicles have restricted access, if they do not meet the requirements like a minimum emission standard to enter. The main purpose is to reduce pollution and improve air quality. But as always, there is no rule without exceptions 😉
For some low-emission zones it is possible to get an exemption for your vehicle in case it does not meet the requirements to enter. With PTV Developer Routing API V1.34.0, we provide the new request parameter ‘lowEmissionZoneExemptions’. There you can specify all available exemptions for your vehicle and then routing within the corresponding low-emission zones is allowed.
Moreover, with PTV Developer Data API V1.16.0, you have the possibility to request all exemptible low-emission zones for the whole map dynamically (for example to provide a selection list in your application). Just use the new response parameter ‘exemptibleLowEmissionZones’.
Detailed information about low-emission zones is available in our concept or you play around with the revised showcase as in the above example. There you see a valid route in the low-emission zone of Strasbourg. The vehicle has no approval like a badge, but an exemption for Strasbourg and is therefore allowed to enter the zone.
